The day doesn’t want to be here.
The sky’s given up
and the sun’s run out of tricks.
The suicides
fill the night and shine
like unnamed stars
and you’re weary
from the effort it takes
to pretend to be something
more than lost,
from clinging so tightly
to what’s left of the world.
Running out of places
to hide the corpses
of all your murdered hours,
and nothing left upon the earth
you’d even want to steal.
Embarrassed
by the kindness of strangers
and fallen out of love
with your sins,
your heart crying
like some spoiled child
for something new to love
or to destroy.
Geeze, I wish I could write like this.

BRILLIANT third strophe dude!!
I put it (the Mill reading) on my calendar, and hopefully I won’t have to skip out of your reading this time, Raindog! I hope those lummoxpress books will be available also.
More brilliance. How do you do it?
Brilliance, I don’t know about, but I liked the poem.
And I’m sorry Mr. Dog that you can’t write like Mr. Taylor, Jr., but I think you do okay for yourself… don’t you?
And I’m really sorry about starting the last two sentences with a conjunction… and so it goes
Fabulous first three lines, although the entire piece was just great. Such unexpected language. What does the rebel do when they’ve fallen out of love with their sins and everyone else has long since fallen out of love with them? A great dead-end story.
